City Council Goal #5 is to develop a "Comprehensive Housing Strategy":

Council Goal 5 is to develop a comprehensive housing strategy for the next 10 years.

The major objectives are to develop a work plan and citizen involvement process, finalize alternative strategies, complete a draft plan and review and adopt final strategies.

The Comprehensive Housing Strategy

We are proud to announce that after over a year's worth of Citizen Advisory Committee meetings, 2 Open Houses, and several drafts, the Shoreline City Council unanimously accepted the Comprehensive Housing Strategy on February 19th, 2008, and has scheduled a public hearing for March 24th, where they will consider a motion to adopt the Housing Strategy. The work of the CAC and the creation of the draft have been the first steps to proactively managing aspects of Shoreline's future housing stock. The emphasis of committee work and the Strategy focused on the areas of housing affordability and choice, as well as protecting neighborhood character.

Now that the document has been transmitted to Council, it will be up to them to review recommendations, prioritize strategies, and direct City staff to implement changes. Neighborhoods will also be able to play a role in shaping local housing options because a key component of the Strategy is that most changes be directed by neighborhood subarea planning processes and through pilot projects.

We would also like to give a special thank you to all the citizens whose insights, time, and effort created a Strategy to guide housing policies for years to come.
