Shoreline Park Tennis Court Lighting

Status
As of May 2008
Phase: Construction Complete

The lights have been installed and are operational. New nets and posts have recently been installed. The new lights are activated by a push-button system with a 30-minute timer and locked out after 10:00 p.m. each evening. The courts are now operational and open for community use. The tennis courts will be resurfaced later this spring as part of a separate operations and maintenance project, approximately a two to four week process.

Overview & History
Two public open houses were held in May and letters were sent to nearby property owners to inform them of upcoming design and construction. Please click on diagram 1 and diagram 2 to view the material presented at the May public meeting for this project. In May 2006, Shoreline voters approved a bond issue to acquire park property and improve parks throughout the community.  One element of that bond was to add lighting to the Shoreline Park tennis courts. Lighting will extend the number of hours these much-used courts will be available to the public.

Shoreline Park is located in the north central portion of the City in the Echo Lake neighborhood. A portion of the park is owned by the Shoreline School District. The park has two all-weather soccer fields, a natural wooded area to the north and the Shoreline Pool. The site is adjacent to the Spartan Gym, the Shoreline Center and the Shoreline Stadium.  The surrounding neighborhood consists primarily of single-family homes. This park was acquired by King County in the late 1970s and was located adjacent to Shoreline High School, after which it is likely named.
