Citywide Trail Corridor Improvements

Status
As of May 2008
Phase: Planning

A new pedestrian crossing at the Interurban Trail and 145th Street was completed in 2007. In 2008, staff will present City Council with a summary of the Trail Corridor Study Group's soft surface park trail project list. Design for these soft surface trails within parks will begin in mid 2008. Planning for city-wide hard surface trail connectors will begin this summer.

Overview & History
In May 2006, Shoreline voters approved a bond issue to acquire park property and improve parks throughout the community.  One element of that bond was to restore and improve trails within Shoreline’s wooded parks and build other trail connections throughout the City.

To improve access and safety for walkers, hikers and cyclists in parks and connections to other trails, this project will identify and construct trail corridors throughout the City for connectivity and recreation purposes. Trails within Shoreline’s wooded parks would be restored and improved.  Actual locations will be determined through an active public process.

This July 2007, a priority project of the trail corridor funding was completed - the new pedestrian crossing at the Interurban Trailhead and 145th Street. The City of Shoreline contributed $20,000 towards this $120,000 project completed by the City of Seattle. The Trails Corridor Study Group has been meeting since January to help identify and prioritize trail improvements to be funded by the bond issue. The group has begun forming recommendations for consideration by the PRCS Board.  Findings were compiled into a report for the PRCS Boards review.
