Shoreline's Neighborhood Traffic Safety Program
The Neighborhood Traffic Safety Program (NTSP) was created to respond to residents' concerns about speeding, cut-through traffic, accidents and pedestrian safety on residential (non-arterial) streets.
The City of Shoreline developed this program with the help of citizens, school district officials, fire and police department representatives and technical experts. Research and experience have shown that neighborhood traffic concerns require a holistic approach involving the entire community. A combination of education, enforcement, and engineering solutions is the most effective method of dealing with these concerns.
How the Program Works:
The NTSP consists of a two-phase approach that incorporates the "Three E's."
Phase 1. The first phase uses "Education" and traffic "Enforcement" to encourage behavior changes that lead to safer streets.
Phase 2. The second phase uses "Engineering" solutions such as traffic circles, speed humps and narrowed lanes for traffic calming.
Participation of volunteers is vital to the success of the NTSP, which is why it is important for the community to be involved.
What You Can Do:
You can help by obeying posted speed limits, traffic signs and general rules of the road. If you have concerns about traffic on your residential street, you can enroll in the Neighborhood Traffic Safety Program by calling the City of Shoreline's Traffic Services Office at (206) 801-2433.
