Parvovirus Warning
King County veterinarians have recently reported a spike in parvovirus cases in area dogs. Parvo is a potentially deadly virus that is extremely contagious. Symptoms include lethargy, vomiting, fever and diarrhea. The virus is extremely hardy and can survive in contaminated soil for over a year.

Puppies who have not received their full schedule of vaccinations are the most vulnerable to parvo. Veterinarians recommend vaccinations at 8, 12 and 16 weeks of age, a booster at one year and boosters every three years thereafter.

Shoreline Off-Leash Dog Areas are open, but pet owners are encouraged to make sure their dog’s vaccinations are up to date. If your dog shows any of the symptoms of Parvo, please seek veterinary care and keep them at home.

Stewardship Opportunities
ShoreDog, a volunteer dog advocacy organization helps to ensure that the off-leash areas are cared for.  To find out about volunteer opportunities, contact ShoreDog at
