Eligible low income individuals and families can receive high speed internet for $10.00 a month (1.5 Mbps download, faster speeds available for slightly more) from programs administered by Comcast and CenturyLink (formerly Qwest).
CenturyLink program is called “Internet Basics” and anyone receiving benefits from DSHS is eligible. Century Link has a one-time activation fee of $20.00. An optional netbook computer is also available for $150, but requires a two year contract.
Comcast’s program is called “Internet Essentials” and is only available to families with a child participating in the free school lunch program. Comcast has no activation fee or contract required for the optional netbook computer.
